Commandify introduces a modern command palette to the WordPress admin dashboard. It allows you a faster and more focused way to navigate, search, and manage your site.
Instead of browsing through multiple menus and screens, you can use a single keyboard shortcut to access exactly what you need.
This guide walks you through installing Commandify, opening the palette, and using the core features included in the free version.
What Is Commandify? #
Commandify is a productivity layer built on top of the WordPress admin interface. It lets you open screens, search through content, trigger common actions, and adjust settings- all through a clean, search-driven command palette.

If you’ve used command palettes in tools like VS Code or macOS Spotlight, Commandify will feel instantly familiar. If not, the workflow is simple to learn: press a shortcut, start typing, and choose your action.
The result is a smoother, keyboard-first experience inside WordPress.
System Requirements #
Commandify works out of the box on most modern WordPress installations. You only need:
- WordPress 6.2 or newer
- PHP 7.4 or newer
- A user role with access to the dashboard
No configuration or dependencies are required before using the palette.
Installing Commandify #
You can install Commandify the same way you would install any plugin. For now, rely on manual way as we are waiting to be live soon on WordPress repository. You can now directly download from Commandify product page.
Install Manually #
Download the ZIP file from Commandify home page, then go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, select the file, and activate it after installation.
Once activated, Commandify immediately registers its default keyboard shortcut.
Install from WordPress.org (Wait a few days) #
Open Plugins → Add New, search for Commandify, and click Install Now.
Once installed, click Activate to start using the palette.
Opening the Command Palette #
The palette can be opened from any screen within the WordPress admin:
- Press Cmd + K if you’re using macOS
- Press Ctrl + K if you’re on Windows or Linux
A clean search bar will appear centered on your screen. This is where all your actions begin. You don’t need to configure anything, just start typing.
Navigating Everything on WordPress With the Palette #

Commandify mirrors your entire admin menu, including core screens, plugin-created menus, and custom post types.
Instead of clicking through nested menus, you can type the name of any screen (such as “Plugins”, “Add New Post”, “Media Library”, or “WooCommerce Orders”) and jump there instantly.
This dramatically shortens the time spent moving around the dashboard, especially on larger sites.
Searching Content with Commandify #

Beyond navigation, the palette can also search your content. When you type the name of a post, page, or media item, Commandify shows results enriched with useful context:
- Post type
- Status (Draft, Published, Updated)
- Date
- Author
You can open an item, view it, or move it to the trash directly from the palette. Content search is one of the fastest ways to jump into writing or editing tasks.
Performing Quick Actions #
Commandify includes several built-in actions that help with everyday site maintenance. Instead of hunting down the right menu, you can trigger actions like clearing caches, checking for updates, or emptying the trash by typing a few letters.

Each action shows a subtle confirmation message when completed so you always know what happened.
Managing Plugins and Themes #

If you’re setting up a new site or frequently switch between plugins, Commandify makes this process easier. You can search for plugins and themes from the official WordPress.org directories and install or activate them without navigating to separate pages.
This is especially helpful for developers or freelancers who manage multiple sites.
Customizing Commandify to Fit Your Workflow #
Every user can tune how Commandify behaves. The Preferences panel lets you:
- Change the global keyboard shortcut
- Adjust how many results appear in each search
- Modify search responsiveness
- Hide commands you do not use
To access these settings, open the palette and type Preferences. These options help keep the palette tailored to your workflow.
Helpful Tips for New Users #
Once you’re familiar with the basic workflow, a few small habits make Commandify even more efficient:
- Use short keywords when searching—Commandify understands partial matches
- Keep your hands on the keyboard to reduce context switching
- Try using the palette instead of menus for a full day to experience the difference
- Hide rarely used commands to keep your palette focused
Commandify Free offers enough functionality to noticeably improve your daily rhythm inside WordPress.
What Comes Next #
As you explore more ways to speed up your workflow, you may find the Pro version helpful. Commandify Pro adds features like contextual command packs, pattern recognition, advanced settings forms, toggle commands, usage analytics, and deep WooCommerce management tools.
A separate guide covers these in detail if you want to go further.
